Just about anywhere you go on the 'net, as soon as you say you live in Japan, you get replies like 'Oh wow, man that must be wild!''So you must see all those cute girls in cat ears!' *shakes head* The way the west presents Japan in the media fills people's heads with all kinds of ridiculous ideas and stereotypes...'mysterious' Asia, ninja, amine, fetishes, lolicon,I'm sure you know what I mean. However, when it comes to working here it's one of the most, in some ways, stuffy and conservative places on earth. Life in a Japanese neighborhood isn't much different. Everybody knows what you're doing and where you're going, and inappropriate dress and behavior (whether it's based on one's age or the area's standards) isn't tolerated well. Too many young guys (and girls too, I guess) have an idea of Japan as some kind of 24/7 kinky amusement park...and can be rather put out by info to the contrary :-D
